Are you looking to commission an expert witness report from an ADHD or autism specialist?
You may be looking to request an expert report about yourself, or you may be a solicitor, barrister, or member of HM Courts & Tribunals service. Or you may represent another agency, such as NHS resolution, social services, the court of protection, the police, the national probation service, the UK border authority, or HM Prison Service.
How can we help?
The ADHD and Autism Clinic is provided by Expert Court Reports Ltd, a national provider of expert witnesses and expert witness reports. Expert Court Reports Ltd has several experts with specialist expertise in attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.
All three consultant psychiatrists who work in the ADHD and autism clinic—Dr Andrew Iles, Dr Stephen Attard, and Dr Alexandra Blackman—provide expert witness reports via Expert Court Reports Ltd. They are joined by several other experts who are available for instruction in legal proceedings relating to people with ADHD and autism.
Our experts receive instructions in criminal proceedings, family proceedings, and civil proceedings.
In criminal proceedings, our experts may be asked to comment upon the effect of ADHD and autism on offending behaviour. They may be asked to comment on the issue of fitness to plead. In other cases, an expert may be needed to comment on options for disposal. Our experts provide evidence to the Parole Board and will undertake independent assessments on behalf of a prisoner’s legal representative. Typical instructions for parole cases include the effect that ADHD and autism may have on an offender’s ability to engage in interventions, but issues of treatment and support may also arise.
In family law proceedings, experts may be required in both publicly funded and privately funded proceedings. In care proceedings, the children or the parents may have existing, or suspected neurodevelopmental disorders, which would require specialist assessment which requires the commission of an expert witness report. Instructions may also be received in private children’s law, as well as in divorce proceedings. In divorce proceedings, our experts may be asked to comment on the likelihood of one party being able to return to paid employment at the point of financial separation; in other cases, issues of capacity may arise.
We receive instructions in various types of civil proceedings, including personal injury, clinical negligence, employment, immigration, housing, war pensions and armed forces compensation, and social entitlement. In civil proceedings, our experts are often instructed to give an opinion as to whether the individual is disabled within the meaning of the Equality Act 2010. Determining disability is a matter for the court or tribunal to decide, but an expert report is often required to assist the judge in their decision. Findings of disability may lead to claims as well as defences in civil proceedings. For example, a disabled employee may be the applicant in employment tribunal proceedings, or, a disabled tenant may be the defendant in repossession proceedings. Whether or not disability is relevant to the proceedings, expert evidence may be required to comment on issues such as misdiagnosis, access to treatment, and prognosis.
Why can’t I instruct an expert directly from the ADHD and Autism Clinic?
The ADHD and Autism Clinic was set up to provide assessment and treatment interventions for adults with neurodevelopmental disorders. The focus of the clinic is to provide clinical services. Our colleagues at Expert Court Reports are dedicated to the management of expert witness services and are therefore better placed to meet your needs. Often, it is better to seek expert evidence from another professional rather than your treating clinician. By using Expert Court Reports, you will be given a choice of experts for your reporting needs. If you have already decided who you wish to approach for your expert witness report, or court report, please be assured that all three clinicians who work at the ADHD and Autism Clinic are available for instruction from Expert Court Reports.
