Clinical opportunities with The ADHD & Autism Clinic
The ADHD & Autism Clinic is an independent UK service providing online ADHD and autism assessments for adults, together with ADHD treatment and support following assessment. Our clinical team includes consultant psychiatrists, a counselling psychologist and an autism assessment practitioner. We welcome expressions of interest from suitably experienced clinicians who share our commitment to careful, responsible assessment and patient-centred care.
Neurodevelopmental assessment calls for more than identifying familiar traits or interpreting questionnaire scores. It requires a proper developmental and psychiatric history, an understanding of how difficulties affect everyday life, consideration of co-occurring conditions and alternative explanations, and a reasoned clinical conclusion. Sometimes an assessment supports a diagnosis; sometimes it does not. Both outcomes deserve the same care.
Who we would like to hear from
We are particularly interested in hearing from:
- Consultant psychiatrists with substantial experience in the assessment and management of ADHD in adults, including differential diagnosis and co-occurring psychiatric conditions.
- HCPC-registered practitioner psychologists with relevant experience and training in the assessment of autism in adults.
- Experienced autism assessment practitioners who can contribute appropriately to a multidisciplinary diagnostic pathway, including structured observation and developmental history gathering.
We also welcome enquiries from other appropriately qualified clinicians whose experience would complement our existing team. The precise nature of any role will depend on professional competence and service needs.
Our approach to clinical care
The clinic provides structured adult ADHD assessments led by consultant psychiatrists and multidisciplinary assessments for autism. Our work is informed by recognised diagnostic criteria and relevant national guidance, including NICE ADHD guidance (opens in a new tab) and NICE guidance on autism in adults (opens in a new tab).
We value clinicians who are comfortable making nuanced decisions, explaining uncertainty and recognising when a different diagnosis or additional assessment may be more appropriate. Questionnaires, structured interviews and observational tools can inform a clinical assessment; none should be treated as independently diagnostic.
We expect clear written reports, considered recommendations and appropriate communication with patients and other professionals. Clinical judgement must not be influenced by pressure to diagnose, prescribe or achieve a particular outcome.

What working with us may involve
Depending on your professional background and agreed role, work may include clinical interviews, review of developmental and collateral information, structured assessments, diagnostic formulation, report writing and appropriate follow-up. Our ADHD pathway also includes treatment and medication review where clinically indicated and within the responsibilities of an appropriately qualified prescriber.
Assessments are currently delivered online, allowing clinicians to contribute from different parts of the UK. We recognise that some clinicians may be interested in working alongside NHS commitments or other established practice. Working patterns, clinical responsibilities, governance arrangements and remuneration would be discussed individually before any appointment or engagement is agreed.
Professional standards
We ask prospective clinicians to demonstrate relevant qualifications and experience, appropriate current professional registration where applicable, adequate indemnity for the proposed work, and a sound understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and information governance.
We also look for evidence of continuing professional development, reflective practice and a willingness to work constructively with clinical and administrative colleagues. Experience with adult neurodevelopmental conditions, and the limits of your own competence, are more important than a list of assessment instruments.
An introduction to the team
The clinic brings together clinicians from different professional backgrounds. You can read about our existing clinical team and their experience on our website.
Our administration team supports the service, while clinical decisions remain the responsibility of the professionals involved in each patient’s care.

Register your interest
If you are interested in a clinical opportunity with The ADHD & Autism Clinic, please complete our enquiry form. Tell us about your professional background, your experience of adult ADHD or autism assessment, and the kind of involvement you are considering.
We welcome speculative enquiries, but submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee that a suitable opportunity is currently available. If your experience matches a potential need, we can discuss the role, expectations and next steps.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enquire if I also work in the NHS?
Yes. Clinicians who undertake NHS work may register their interest, provided any additional engagement is compatible with their existing contractual, professional and governance obligations.
Do you offer opportunities to assess children?
The ADHD & Autism Clinic currently provides assessments for adults only. This page therefore focuses on clinicians experienced in adult assessment and care.
Is previous experience of ADHD or autism assessment necessary?
Relevant experience and demonstrated competence are important. The requirements will vary by role; a clinician involved in prescribing, for example, will have different responsibilities from one contributing to a multidisciplinary autism assessment.
