Autism assessment

At The ADHD & Autism Clinic, Dr Wolter-Ferguson undertakes the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) component of autism assessments. She completed ADOS-2 training with Hogrefe in 2025.

The ADOS-2 is a structured observational assessment that can contribute important clinical information to a comprehensive autism diagnostic evaluation. Dr Wolter-Ferguson brings her psychological expertise to this process, with particular attention to social communication, interpersonal experiences and the ways in which individuals understand and navigate relationships and social environments.

Her wider psychological training helps her recognise how autism may coexist with anxiety, emotional difficulties and other mental health conditions. Her contribution forms part of the clinic’s broader diagnostic assessment process: ADOS-2 alone does not establish a diagnosis.

Psychological therapy

Alongside her autism assessment work, Dr Wolter-Ferguson provides psychological therapy through The ADHD & Autism Clinic.

She works with adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, obsessive-compulsive difficulties, relationship problems, low self-esteem and challenges associated with significant life changes.

Her therapeutic approach is integrative, relational and pluralistic, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, existential-phenomenological approaches and relational approaches. Rather than applying a single model to every patient, she works collaboratively to understand an individual’s experiences and identify approaches appropriate to their needs.

She has experience providing both shorter-term psychological interventions and longer-term therapeutic work. Her interests include the relationship between neurodivergence and psychological wellbeing, particularly identity, self-understanding, relationships and emotional regulation.

Clinical experience

Dr Wolter-Ferguson has worked across NHS, charitable and independent psychological services. Her NHS experience includes the Integrated Psychological Therapy Team at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where she undertook psychological assessment and Cognitive Analytic Therapy.

She has also worked at the Stress Project in Islington, supporting people experiencing depression, isolation, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and identity-related concerns. Her experience in independent psychiatric services includes psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for individuals with depression, emotional difficulties and complex presentations.

Earlier in her career, she worked within an NHS community eating disorders service for children and young people, contributing to clinical assessment, psychological interventions and service evaluation. Alongside her role at The ADHD & Autism Clinic, she maintains an independent psychological therapy practice.

This breadth of experience informs her understanding of how psychological distress relates to developmental experiences, interpersonal relationships and individual circumstances.

Approach to patient care

Dr Wolter-Ferguson places importance on developing a trusting, collaborative therapeutic relationship. She believes assessment and therapy should offer space to explore experiences in a supportive, respectful and non-judgemental environment.

Her approach is compassionate and individualised, recognising that people differ in their experiences, needs, values and understanding of their difficulties. She aims to help patients develop insight into patterns of thought, emotion and behaviour and identify meaningful ways of responding to challenges.

Her relational and pluralistic perspective considers both current difficulties and the wider experiences that shape psychological wellbeing. This is especially relevant when working with neurodivergent adults who may have experienced longstanding difficulties or uncertainty about their experiences.

Dr Wolter-Ferguson’s academic background spans psychology and philosophy.
